World’s largest copper mine contracts Tecnologías COBRA to perform expert factory service
AUGUST 11, 2021
When a mining facility is so big that it can be seen from space, it requires effective, real-world equipment and maintenance.
Codelco’s Chuquicamata site in northern Chile, the largest copper mine in the world, recently contracted COBRA, The EPCM Group, to perform Expert Factory Service in the world’s largest tankhouse.
The COBRA and EPCM team is performing important maintenance on nine unique automation systems within the plant: four Cathode Stripping Machines, three Anode Preparation Machines and two Anode Scrap Wash systems.
The work includes both overall maintenance, repairs, tuning, and training, as well as identifying and fixing recurring issues with equipment, which is over 15 years old. As segments of the machines begin to require more substantial upgrades or replacement due to key component obsolescence, the COBRA and EPCM teams will provide our client with leading-edge, optimized solutions.
“COBRA was chosen for the Chuquicamata project in part because, as an EPCM company, it can receive direct factory support and expertise from all of EPCM’s divisions, which has decades of experience in the mining and mineral processing industry,” said Dan Pozzobon, Machine Specialist, Tecnologías COBRA and EPCM Service & Supply.
An operation as large as Chuquicamata requires not only impeccable maintenance but innovation and a full-spectrum approach to service – the hallmarks of COBRA and The EPCM Group.
